Play Atlantic student-athlete and Texas Christian University men's tennis freshman Cameron Norrie was named Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office last week.
The Auckland, New Zealand, native is the first Horned Frog plater to be awarded a weekly honor from the Big 12 this season. Cameron went undefeated in singles and doubles this past weekend, as TCU defeated two top-25 ranked opponents in No. 21 Texas Tech and No. 22 USF and remained perfect at home with an 11-0 record this season.
Norrie and doubles partner Trevor Johnson were ranked No. 18 nationally and proved it, by only allowing their opponents to win three games between two matches. The duo opened with a 6-2 win against the Texas Tech pair, before dominating their USF opponent, 6-1, on Saturday.
In singles action, a then-No. 37 ranked Norrie grabbed two straight set victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Leading 3-2 on Thursday night against the Red Raiders, Norrie clinched the match for the Frogs by defeating Hugo Dojas, 6-4 in the first set and 7-6(4) in a thrilling tiebreaker second set. After dropping the doubles point against USF, Norrie helped lead the charge in the comeback victory and defeated Oliver Pramming, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Norrie has notched 18 wins in his debut campaign and has defeated five ranked opponents.
TCU will next be in action by going on the road and facing Metroplex rival, SMU, on Wednesday, April 8 at 6 p.m., in Dallas, Texas.
