Sep 10, 2015
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- George Washington University goalie Matt Taylor (Fr., Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) made 31 saves and allowed 11 goals in games against Occidental College and St. Francis College Brooklyn at the Brown University Bruno Classic in his intercollegiate debut weekend to claim honors as the September 7 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week.

In his team's 2015 season-opener against Occidental, he turned aside 17 shots - two shy of the George Washington single-game program record - to help the Colonials pen the Tigers by an 8-3 final score.

He followed up the performance by registering 14 saves with eight goals allowed versus then No. 17-ranked St. Francis Brooklyn in an 8-6 loss.

Taylor becomes the first George Washington men's goalie to claim Defensive Player of the Week honors from the CWPA league office since Connor Dillon (Sr., Los Gatos, Calif./Menlo School) netted notice on September 30, 2013.

September 7 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week Honor Roll: Garrett Davidson (Johns Hopkins University); Andrew Perry (Salem International University); Beau Bayless (United States Naval Academy)
